Tostão is the stage name of Antônio José dos Santos, born in Romaria, a city in the Triângulo Mineiro region. He started playing the accordion when he was still a child, influenced by his father, who, when he was almost 18, went to work as an accordionist for the legendary duo Lourenço and Lourival. While performing in circuses, he got to know the behind-the-scenes of music and started frequenting recording studios in São Paulo. Having developed with Chamamé since he was very young, he even caught the attention of musicians. He realized that his performing style of playing was becoming a topic of conversation. Tostão is one of the country's leading instrumentalists and one of the most entertaining figures in country music.
