One day, after dark, master carpenter Karl Lohse saw the boyfriend of his beloved daughter Karla running headlong out of the house. In her apartment, he found his daughter covered in blood and fatally injured. Klaus Hencke was arrested that same evening based on the father's testimony and questioned as a suspect. Two days later, Günter Lohse, Karla's 17-year-old son, saw Hencke running around freely again and meeting up with his former police colleagues and friends in the pub. The murdered woman's father, who was over seventy years old, reacted to this news with understandable outrage. He had seen Hencke running away from the crime scene with his own eyes and 'now they're letting him go'. On his first trip to Hencke's towing company, there was a heated exchange of words and a scuffle when Lohse lunged at Hencke with a car jack and tried to beat him to death. The very next day, old Lohse is arrested in his workshop by police chief Klages. Thanks to a deception, Lohse is able to escape the clutches of the justice system and take the law into his own hands. He gets hold of an old rifle from a friend. His wife Liesbeth turns to Dr. Franck for help.
