In 1986, he became an assistant in the Department of Anatomy at Saga Medical University. In 1994, he became a lecturer. In 1996, he became an associate professor. In 2003, he became director of the First Anthropology Laboratory at the National Museum of Nature and Science. In 2009, he became director of the Human History Research Group at the same museum.
