Richard Wurmbrand was a Lutheran pastor who, because of his faithfulness to the Christian faith, spent more than fourteen years in various prisons. "I have always disliked the idea that a man who has been unjustly imprisoned should write or preach about his suffering. The years of prison did not seem too long to me, because alone in my cell, I discovered that, beyond faith and love, there is joy in the Lord: a deep and extraordinary happiness, unparalleled in this world. And when I left prison I was like a man descending from the top of the mountain - from where he had seen the peace and beauty of an entire land - to return to the plain."
