The 70th Armed Forces Day ceremony will be held at 6:20 PM today (the 1st) at the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan, Seoul, with President Moon Jae-in in attendance. The ceremony, held under the slogan, “The Korean Armed Forces in the World, Together with the People,” will be attended by Minister of National Defense Jeong Kyeong-doo, Commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command Vincent Brooks, the Chiefs of Staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, veterans, former ministers of national defense, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the chiefs of staff of each service. Eight Army veterans, political party representatives, religious representatives, heads of reserve organizations, military families, and ordinary citizens will also attend. At Cheong Wa Dae, Chief of Staff to the President Im Jong-seok, Director of National Security Chung Eui-yong, and Director of Policy Jang Ha-sung will also attend. Cheong Wa Dae announced that since Armed Forces Day falls on a weekday, it will be the first time the ceremony will be held in the evening, unlike previous years, in consideration of the fact that many citizens can watch the ceremony in person and to boost the morale of the military. The ceremony will be broadcast live on each broadcasting station. The event will proceed in the following order: paying homage to the fallen soldiers, laying flowers and paying silent tribute, entrance of the president and entrance of the flag bearers, saluting the president, firing a 21-gun salute, and celebratory flyby by the Black Eagles. The national anthem and national anthem will be sung, and Oh Yeon-jun, who sang at the April 27 Inter-Korean Summit banquet, will sing “Amazing Grace.” A commemorative video with the theme of “The Korean Armed Forces in the World Together with the People,” a welcoming address by Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo, and a commemorative video titled “We Are All Soldiers or Families of the Korean Armed Forces” will follow. An award ceremony will be held for each unit and individual, and President Moon will give a commemorative speech. The following celebratory performance will feature a comprehensive taekwondo demonstration, a demonstration of the future combat performance system, and a song by singer Psy.
