I am proud to congratulate you on your graduation and commissioning after completing arduous military training and academic courses and becoming young officers with both civil and military skills. 477 strong and dashing elite officers have now stood tall as the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. The COVID-19 pandemic must have made cadet life even more difficult. You missed your families and friends the most, and you were not able to meet even once in your first year as cadets, but you encouraged each other and overcame them. I would like to congratulate the school principal, Ko Chang-jun, and the faculty for their hard work in guiding the cadets well under difficult circumstances, and I would like to congratulate and thank the families who have steadfastly supported the cadets’ challenges. Young officers, the proud tradition of the Chungcheongdae shines on your shoulders. Chungcheongdae is where the Silla Hwarangs trained their minds and bodies and nurtured their dreams of unifying the three kingdoms, and where countless young men risked their lives to defend the Nakdong River defense line during the Korean War. In 1968, the 3rd Army Academy was established in this place where the spirits of the patriotic martyrs reside. Over the years, the 158,000 officers who have passed through Chungcheongdae have protected the security of the country and its people with a strong sense of mission. Now, it is your turn. Under the motto of ‘country, honor, and loyalty,’ I command you to fully display the martial arts and expertise you have honed, as well as your loyal and courageous spirit, and fulfill your mission of protecting the country. Young officers, the peace and prosperity we enjoy are based on a solid foundation of security. The driving force behind the North Korean nuclear crisis turning into a dialogue phase and promoting the peace process on the Korean Peninsula was also a strong national defense force. Our country is the country with the greatest security burden in the world. For now, deterring war between the South and the North is the top security priority, but looking at it more broadly and in the long term, the geopolitical situation on the Korean Peninsula itself is always a serious security environment. We must have the power to protect ourselves in any situation. The international order is fluctuating and conflicts between major powers are emerging, and the global security environment is rapidly changing. The economy is becoming a security issue, and non-traditional security threats such as new types of terrorism that cross borders are increasing. Our military has the world's 6th-largest national defense force and is evolving into a cutting-edge science and technology military through 'Defense Reform 2.0'. Early warning aircraft, Aegis ships, and high-performance radars detect the security situation around the Korean Peninsula in real time, and we are also strengthening our ultra-precision strike capabilities in preparation for emergencies, including supersonic cruise missiles, high-power ballistic missiles, and F-35As. Last year, we became the eighth country in the world to roll out the first prototype of the KF-21 Boramae, the most advanced supersonic fighter jet, and the seventh country in the world to successfully launch an SLBM. Recently, North Korea has been conducting missile launch tests one after another, but we have superior missile capabilities and defense capabilities, and we are also firmly establishing the Korean Iron Dome and missile defense system that can block any threat without any gaps. Our Army's goal is to become a future-oriented combat force by promoting 'Vision 2030'. 'Army Tiger 4.0' utilizing the 4th industrial revolution technology will be deployed, and reconnaissance drones and artificial intelligence will analyze the battle situation and attack the enemy with armed drones and unmanned vehicles. We are also expanding the 'Warrior Platform' that maximizes combat capabilities and operational capabilities by incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as bulletproof helmets, bulletproof vests, and personal firearms. You young officers are the main players who will operate the new combat system and strategy. I hope that you will become the best military experts and take the lead in building a 'first-class army that goes beyond limits' and become the main players in protecting and creating peace on the Korean Peninsula with a responsible national defense befitting our national power and military strength. Young officers, the late 1st Lieutenant Cha Seong-do from the 1st class of the 3rd Army Academy threw himself on a grenade and saved his entire platoon. The late Captain Park Chun-tae from the 13th class lost his life while saving a scout who had stepped on a landmine. They are seniors who showed the true image of a commander with the spirit of sacrifice. I ask the young officers. I hope that you will become a commander who thinks of your subordinates before yourself and sets an example. You must cherish the value of each and every person and demonstrate leadership through communication and inclusiveness. True camaraderie grows when we care for and care for each other. A strong army is completed when all soldiers become one with a strong camaraderie. Let's create an advanced barracks culture where human rights are respected so that all soldiers, from commanders to soldiers, can unite with pride and self-esteem. Dear citizens, proud young officers, the Korea Army Academy is the only transfer-type military academy in the world. The cadets have developed expertise in their respective fields of study and have gained diverse social experiences before joining the Loyalty Corps. Among the 57th class commissioned today, there are seven graduates who have served as soldiers and non-commissioned officers and have three military numbers. You have chosen a life of dedication to your country and people instead of a comfortable and easy life. It is by no means an easy path, but if you do not forget the passion that fueled the Loyalty Corps and move forward without fear, it will be a path of honor and reward. Your country will reward you. What united the cadets with unique personalities was their extraordinary spirit of challenge and fervent patriotism. Just as you overcame the difficult life of cadets together over the past two years, I hope that you will continue to be a source of strength for each other whenever difficulties arise. The people will also send you strong support. I hope that your future will be filled with glory. Thank you. - President Moon Jae-in will attend the 57th graduation and commissioning ceremony of the 3rd Army Academy held at the Loyalty Corps Parade Ground in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do at 2:00 PM on the 28th. During that time, President Moon personally congratulated and encouraged the graduation and commissioning of the cadets who will make and lead the ROK military stronger and smarter. President Moon Jae-in will personally award rank insignia to the commissioned officers today on behalf of their parents who were unable to attend the event due to COVID-19. #3rdArmyAcademy #GraduationCommissionCeremony #PresidentMoonJaeIn 🔹Date: 2022. 2. 28.
