We present a series of lectures by Irina Vasilyevna Pozdeeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Church History of the Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University, dedicated to the church schism, Archpriest Avvakum and the history of the Old Believers. The series was recorded as part of the educational program for the exhibition “Az Avvakum, Archpriest, I Believe So”. On the 400th Anniversary of the Birth of the Spiritual Leader of the Old Believers” - a joint project of the Museum of Russian Icons and the Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum, created under the patronage of the Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church. The exhibition, held at the Museum of Russian Icons in 2021, is dedicated to the personality of Archpriest Avvakum, the era of the “rebellious” 17th century and its main conflict, which led to the church schism and determined the path of development of Russian history for many years. The exhibition includes both artifacts stored in the country's central museums and libraries, as well as works from regional museums and private collections, some of which will be exhibited for the first time. The exhibition was attended by 18 cultural and religious organizations, as well as private collectors from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
