After we humans were born, Ñapirikoli himself left the Sun so that we could live off it.” - Francisco Baniwa In the fifth episode of the Sun cycle, Francisco Baniwa talks about the Sun from the perspective of the Baniwa people in their different clans, covering topics such as the emergence of the world, agriculture, blessing, and the importance of the Sun for the cultural and spiritual identity of his people. The SOL cycle consists of 17 narratives published every Wednesday on our YouTube channel, in the Hatxã Kuï, Tukano, Nheengatu, Maxakali, Guarani, or Portuguese languages. Presenting different views on the Sun, the cycle interweaves indigenous memories and knowledge with perspectives from astronomy, philosophy, astrology, literature, and other areas of knowledge. On Thursdays, we also publish a section related to each episode on our website: www.selvagemciclo.com.br/cadernos Follow our social media and our channel to find out about the series' releases! FRANCISCO LUIZ FONTES BANIWA is a Baniwa indigenous person from the Waliperedakeenai clan, originally from the Ucuqui Cachoeira community, located on the Uaraná River, a tributary of the Ayari River, part of the Içana River basin. He is a maadzero – which means 'wise' to the Baniwa people. He is a master of dances, songs, musical instruments, narrator, healer, and artisan – which he learned, in turn, from his father, uncles, and grandfathers from the Waliperedakeenai and Hohoodeni clans. He is a polyglot and narrator of the book Umbigo do mundo (Umbigo do mundo). He was born speaking Baniwa and Koripako, began learning Nheengatu with his father, and understands Kubeo because of his maternal grandmother. In addition to knowing Portuguese and Spanish, he also learned to speak Wanano on his travels and became fluent in Nheengatu when he settled and married in Asunción in his youth. ________________________ All Selvagem activities and materials are shared free of charge.
