This Mr. Smith who had done therapies, electrotherapy, iontophoresis, for three weeks without healing. So, he went to the therapist Mckenzie and said: eh, I don't know healed, can you look at me? So Mckenzie said ok, go to the other room lie on your stomach on the bed. Ten minutes later Robin Mckenzie arrived in the other room and was shocked because the patient, dear Mr. Smith, had actually laid on his stomach as Robin Mckenzie had asked, but the bed was in this position, so there was a raised backrest and so Mr. Smith had laid down in this position and nothing, Robin Mckenzie asked the patient: well, how do you feel? Because he was quite worried, he said: after so long in this position who knows how it will be, he already had back pain and Mr. Smith said: I'm fine. So Robin Mckenzie was shocked and from here this whole Mckenzie method was born, based mainly on extension movements, why? Because in everyday life we are always bent forward or occasionally rotated. Now, these movements are the ones that cause the most problems, in fact people bend forward and can even get stuck. The same goes for when they do quick rotations, for example during golf. While we never go backwards or sideways, so the McKenzie exercises are mainly backwards and in lateral inclination. Now, before explaining how it works exactly, I want to tell you when it is indicated and when it is contraindicated. This is a mechanical therapy, that is, the patient has pain that improves by doing certain movements, while in certain positions or doing other movements it worsens or in any case remains stable. So this means that it is influenced by the movement or the position. While it is not good if the patient has constant pain day and night that tends to worsen, has a history of cancer, it is no longer indicated even in the case of a vertebral fracture or infection or widespread nerve disease. It is therefore not indicated in all disorders that cause pain that is strong at rest, so for example the patient who cannot sleep at night, who has general malaise, who has an inexplicable weight loss, this method may not be indicated. Regarding age, according to McKenzie, being over 55 can be a relative contraindication, however there are many elderly people who go on vacation and feel fine afterwards. Ok, according to McKenzie there are three types of mechanical pain: 3 syndromes
