Hankyu Katsura Station opened in 1928 and is served by two lines: the Hankyu Kyoto Line, which goes to Karasuma and Kawaramachi in the center of Kyoto, and the Hankyu Arashiyama Line, which goes to Arashiyama, a tourist spot in Kyoto. Katsura Station is the starting point of the Arashiyama Line, and it is one of the main stations on the Hankyu Kyoto Line where all commercial trains, including the "Kyoto Train Gakuraku", stop. The area around the station is surrounded by a large area of contracted areas on both the east and west sides, and a bus terminal is located in front of the station.
