New Chitose Airport, which opened in 1988, is the gateway to Hokkaido, and you can get to Sapporo, the economic and cultural center of Hokkaido, in less than an hour by train, bus, or car. The airport has the fifth highest number of users in Japan, and in the past the Haneda-New Chitose route was ranked number one in the world. When it comes to Hokkaido, many people buy souvenirs, and the New Chitose Airport terminal building is also full of many shops. The second floor has the departure lobby, as well as shops that bring together popular stores from all over Hokkaido. There are many souvenirs that can only be purchased here, such as sweets, seafood, agricultural products, and folk crafts. There are countless shops such as Ishiya Seika, Rokkatei, Ryugetsu, LeTAO, Caramel Kitchen, Royce', Kinotoya, Sato Suisan, Kamaei, JA Biei Biei Senka, and Haskap.
