ČEPS ensures the operation of the electricity transmission system in the Czech Republic. This means not only making sure that "all the wires are in order", but mainly ensuring that the network is supplied with exactly as much electricity as is consumed at any given moment. This requires careful planning of operations and at the same time sufficient reserves on the production side or flexibility on the consumption side, which ČEPS can work with as needed. Unlike in the past, when electricity was basically transmitted from several large power plants to consumers, today we are entering a much more complex reality. A large number of small, independent sources are being created, such as photovoltaic power plants on the roofs of family houses or in the areas of industrial plants, and electricity is thus flowing in all directions. Both from large sources to households and from households to the network, etc. We talked with Pavel Šolc about how the role of ČEPS is developing in the context of new energy and what demands this has on the development of the electricity system itself. You will also learn how the connection of the Czech system with foreign countries works and what ČEPS must prepare for in connection with various scenarios of future development.
