Today, the girls share with us a heartbreaking story of mental health, broken childhood and resilience. In this video, we welcome two twin sisters of Ivorian origin who shared with us their poignant and very particular life story. They tell us about their childhood marked by a father suffering from mental health problems, a subject that is still too taboo within the black community. They reveal to us their challenges living with a mentally ill parent, and how this affected their daily lives as children. They immerse us in the reality of being a child in the care of the DPJ. They testify to their journey through the system, the suffering and struggles they endured, but also the strength they had to find to survive and move forward together. We address extremely delicate subjects such as the attempts to su*c**e, the calls for help they made throughout their childhood without ever receiving a response, and the weight of feeling invisible in a system that is supposed to protect them. The girls also share with us how their experiences have shaped their adult lives, their interpersonal relationships and how they continue to fight for their well-being, all while bearing the scars of a heavy past that we would never suspect at first glance.
