Hello friends! Today I am sharing with you my experience climbing to the Hielo Azul Refuge and Glacier in El Bolsón, Patagonia Argentina. There are at least 2 recommended trails, one is the one to Doña Rosa and the other is the one that starts in Wharton. Unfortunately in February 2023 the friendliest route... the one that starts in Doña Rosa was closed due to the closure of the bridge that crosses the Rio Azul, so I had to take the other one, the one that starts in Wharton. It is a very complex route, with a constant slope for almost 80% of the way, with a lot of loose rock / stone. If you carry a lot of luggage, as was my case, you will suffer, better to do it light! Under normal conditions it can take 5 or 6 hours... it took me much longer because I had a lot of luggage. ATTENTION: the last section, before reaching the Hielo Azul Refuge, is a descent with a very vertical descent, be careful with that and more so if it rained and the road is wet. ---------------------------- TREKKING REGISTRATION: It is a requirement to register for trekking at ANPRALE, you can do it online or when you arrive at Wharton but there is no good signal there, I did it online the night before, I share the link with you, it's easy, you have to put what day you start and what circuit you do and then when you come down let them know that you arrived; Beyond whether they ask for it or not, it seems important to me to let them know that you are going to the mountains: https://anprale.com/recomendaciones-r... just in case, bring a screenshot of that registration ---------------------------- DATA ABOUT THE REFUGE: It is very well prepared both for those who decide to stay at the Refu and for those who camp. The sleeping space in the Refuge has mattresses but you must bring a sleeping bag. In the Refu you can heat water, cook. Both for those who camp and for those who stay at the Refuge, they can use the common area... type dining room, if it's cold it is a good option to spend some time there. In addition, both the bathrooms and the showers can be used. Showers are paid separately whether they are in the refuge or campsite. SOME PRICES OF THE HIELO AZUL REFUGE, March 2023: Shelter: $ 5,000 (Argentine pesos) Camping: $ 2,000 (Argentine pesos) Shower: $ 500 (both for those who make the refuge and for camping) generally from 5pm to 7pm. Warm water! Carrero stew (star dish): $ 3,500 (Argentine pesos) and it can be repeated (if you want ... they give you another portion) / refugio_hielo_azul GPS TRACK: Circular Route: Wharton-Refugio Hielo Azul-Cajon del Azul-Wharton https://n9.cl/tbdp0a --------- Thank you for your time, like, comment or subscription!
