On the 10th day of our 2024 Alpine Tour, we will ride from Samedan in the Engadin in Switzerland over the Ofenpass to Santa Maria val Müstair. A beautiful Alpine pass that connects the Upper Engadin in Zernez with the Vinschgau in northern Italy in Val Müstair. From Zernez to Santa Maria Val Müstair it is 36 km and around 990 meters of altitude to be conquered. The average gradient is around 5%, with a maximum gradient of up to 12%. The Ofenpass is a dream for curve fans. The generally wide, sweeping curves and the good condition of the wide road mean that you can also take fast descents by bike. On the 11th day of the Alpine Tour, we will experience the absolute highlight of the entire tour. Today we will first head from Santa Maria up to the top of the Umbrail Pass at 2,503 m above sea level. The pass road takes us through a quiet but scenic valley with an average gradient of 8.6% and gradients of up to 12%, climbing around 1,120 meters in altitude. A perfectly constructed road takes us to the top of the pass, which is around 300 meters below the Stilfser Joch, with almost no car traffic. The climb to the top of the tour on the Stilfser Joch is only around 300 meters in altitude from the Umbrail Pass. The descent of around 1,850 meters in altitude from the top of the Stilfser Joch pass over a total of 48 bends to Prad am Stilfser Joch in South Tyrol has almost achieved cult status. Surrounded by magnificent peaks, some of which are more than 3,000 meters high, it is a very special experience. It is not for nothing that not only countless car and motorcycle drivers drive up this pass road every day, but also a large number of cyclists with their mountain bikes and, above all, racing bikes. With the best weather, the absolute highlight of this year's Alpine tour.
