The Mexican army deploys an operation in Culiacán, Sinaloa to arrest a relative of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. The target is captured, for a day Culiacán is caught in a confrontation between the army and the armed power of the drug traffickers. The US government claims that Ovidio Guzmán López is behind the fentanyl trafficking empire built by the sons of 'El Chapo' Guzmán. Alias 'El Ratón' and 'Ratón Nuevo', this young man in his thirties is accused of being involved in the criminal empire left by 'El Chapo', who is serving a life sentence in a Colorado prison. Ovidio Guzmán López took his first steps in organized crime at the age of 18, after the murder of his older brother Edgar, who was shot down in a fierce shootout in the parking lot of a shopping center in Culiacán in 2008, according to the State Department. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has had him in its sights since April 2018, when he was charged in a federal court in Washington DC for smuggling illicit substances. The United States claims that Ovidio Guzmán and his brother Joaquín Guzmán López are part of the group that currently controls the Sinaloa Cartel, with tentacles that reach as far as the purchase of cocaine in Colombia.
