In recent years, Turkey has become a major player in the counterfeit goods industry on a global scale. Bags, shoes, clothes, cosmetics... Citizens can encounter these products, known as “fakes” in Turkey, almost everywhere in the country. Especially in coastal areas where tourists are densely populated. However, this situation has undeniable effects on local producers, consumers and the country’s economy. BBC Turkish asked experts on the subject about the size of the industry, its impact on citizens and the economy, and the fight against it.
