A month after the sinking of two old Russian oil tankers, the situation remains critical in the Krasnodar region and on the beaches of Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014, affected by a major oil spill. Fuel oil from the two tankers, which sank in the Kerch Strait on December 15, has also spread into the Sea of Azov and reached the coast of the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, partly occupied by Russia, the regional governor installed by Moscow said Saturday. One of the tankers sank, the other ran aground near the coast. Russian emergency services have therefore built a road to the latter, after oil began to flow from the ship again on Friday, according to officials in Moscow.
