[Anchor] Heavy snowfall amid severe cold weather is pouring down across the northeastern region during the Thanksgiving holiday, the biggest holiday in the United States, putting roads and air traffic on high alert. States of emergency have been declared in New York, Pennsylvania, and other states, and accidents have occurred in various places. Let's connect to the international department to find out more. Reporter Kim Jan-di! Let's tell you about the heavy snowfall in the northeastern United States. [Reporter] It's currently the Thanksgiving holiday, the time of year when the number of people traveling is the highest in the United States. Heavy snow warnings have been issued across the northeastern United States, and states of emergency or disaster have been declared in some areas. The National Weather Service issued a heavy snow warning for the southern coast of Lake Erie and the eastern coast of Lake Ontario on the morning of November 30th (local time). The weather service predicted that up to 120cm of snowfall will fall in these areas by Monday, the 2nd. The weather service also forecasted that some areas of Ohio along the southern coast of Lake Erie could see up to 150cm of snowfall by Tuesday, the 3rd. The Great Lakes, including Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, are areas where heavy snowfalls often accompany severe winter temperatures due to the “lake effect,” where cold air flows over the lakes and creates snow clouds. Due to this heavy snowfall, a state of emergency has been declared in some parts of New York, and a state of disaster has been declared in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State Police reported more than 200 traffic accidents in the 24 hours from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. The U.S. Department of Transportation has advised people to avoid driving, saying that this heavy snowfall could make travel difficult or impossible in some areas. If travel is unavoidable, they are advised to prepare extra water and food in case of an emergency. Authorities have warned that travelers who visited their families for Thanksgiving this weekend may have great difficulty returning home. Some sections of the highway connecting Pennsylvania and upstate New York remain closed. The Associated Press reported that travelers who gave up on driving were flocking to nearby accommodations and spending the night in hotel lobbies, conference rooms, etc. Some areas, including Perrysburg, south of Buffalo, New York, reported 90cm of snowfall as of the morning of the 30th. The heavy snowfall and the cold wave are making it even harder for drivers. The U.S. National Weather Service reported that temperatures dropped sharply due to cold air blowing in from the Arctic, dropping temperatures by 10 to 20 degrees Celsius in the Northern Plains. Authorities have issued cold wave warnings for parts of North Dakota, where temperatures are currently at -18 degrees Celsius. The weather service warned that the cold will spread to the eastern United States by Monday, and warned that temperatures will drop by about 10 degrees Celsius compared to the average for early December.
