Ship Repair Shipyards Even in the midst of a seemingly never-ending recession in the shipbuilding industry, ship repair shipyards that completely repair existing ships and make them like new are said to be booming. In Saha-gu, Busan, there is a large repair shipyard equipped with a facility called a "floating dock." In the existing ship lift method, which involves lifting a ship and placing it on rails, there was a risk of damage to the bottom of the ship when lifting it. That's why ship owners prefer floating docks that float their ships in the water even if it costs a little more. The morning at a ship repair shipyard starts with lifting the ship onto the floating dock. Workers connect eight ropes to the front and back of the ship and lift it onto the supports that have been erected in advance according to the drawings. Two divers go into the water to check if the ship is properly placed on the pedestal. Contrary to the veteran diver's boast that it will be over in an hour, there is a loud voice through the dock. The bottom of the modified ship was not reflected in the drawing, so there was a huge 30cm gap between the pedestal and the ship. After a brief moment of panic, the divers filled the gap between the ship and the pedestal with a plank for four hours. After many twists and turns, the most difficult task of placing the ship in the dock was completed. However, the work is just beginning. In the remaining two weeks, they have to complete about 60 repairs, including washing off the rusted parts of the ship, stripping them, and repainting them in a nice color, as well as repairing the engine and propeller.
