JAKARTA, KOMPASTV - It didn't take long for the police to arrest three motorcycle taxi drivers who were accused of extorting three of their passengers. The three were charged with extortion, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison. Armed with a video that went viral on social media, the police from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Duren Police, West Jakarta, on Friday afternoon (21/2) arrested the three motorcycle taxi drivers known as Arif, Muhtar, and Sudarno at their residence in the Semanan Kalideres area, West Jakarta. One of the suspects denied extorting passengers. The police are still questioning the three motorcycle taxi drivers in the alleged extortion case. Although the three suspects denied extorting, the police consider the rates charged by the suspects to be unreasonable. Tanjung Duren Police Chief Agung Wibowo explained that the rates charged by the three motorcycle taxi drivers were far above the usual rates of no more than IDR 50,000 or IDR 100,000.
