A three-day ski hike on the ice of Lake Saimaa. Our tour leader Peik Joutsen and I had been trying for a long time to coordinate schedules for a joint hike. Peik has extensive experience of moving on ice as a pioneer of the Finnish touring skating scene and of the world below the ice as a diving instructor. The idea of night skiing on ice was a bit nerve-wracking, but in this group I knew it would be safe. For the first time, I also had my new Fjellpulken X-Country 144 sled with me. The sled was just as good as I remembered from last spring's Halti ski hike. The new MSR Whisperlite multi-fuel stove and stove box were also put to the test during the hike. I borrowed a Hilleberg Nammatj 3 GT tunnel tent from Peik for the hike. This is a trusted tent known for northern winter hikes, but it is very expensive. That's why it was nice to be able to test this tent on a loan basis. A big thank you also to Samuli Raappana, who composed the 1st, 3rd and 4th songs in this video!
