Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) does not progress in the same way for everyone affected, as the disease can occur in different forms. It progresses from early to intermediate and then advanced AMD. Advanced AMD is in turn divided into a dry and a wet form. The dry form is also called "geographic atrophy" and around 450,000 people in Germany are affected by this disease.
