※ This video is from <Extreme Jobs - Incheon Bridge Construction Site, Parts 1-2> broadcast on June 11, 2008. Incheon Bridge, the largest in Korea and the 6th largest in the world! People writing new history on the sea Incheon Bridge, which connects Incheon International Airport and Songdo International City, has a pure bridge length of 18.2km! It is the largest in Korea and the 6th largest in the world, and will rewrite the history of bridge construction in Korea. We visited the Incheon Bridge construction site, which is currently in the final stages of construction, with a drastically shortened construction period by mobilizing various new technologies and new methods. It is a place where over a thousand maritime workers are mobilized and sweating bullets in the middle of the vast ocean, 20m deep, where wind and fog are frequent and the current is so fast that it is difficult to escape once swept away. Even in these harsh conditions, the challenge to build the best bridge continues today. <Incheon Bridge Construction Site> Part 1 ▷ People who make the best in all kinds of bad conditions A morning with a visibility advisory issued in the foggy Songdo sea. It takes four hours longer than usual to get to work by sea. After 20 minutes, the cable-stayed bridge, the core section of Incheon Bridge, reveals its grandeur. The main tower (238.5m) is almost as high as the 63 Building. Work is being done to connect the cables that will support the deck on the cable-stayed bridge, where the final work is in full swing. Fixing the cables in a dangerous place where you can see the vast ocean 20m deep right under your feet is a constant source of tension. If you even fall, the fast current could cause a catastrophic accident. The work is even worse on the upper part of the main tower, 200m in the air. Connecting the cables with only a safety belt is a task that truly challenges human limits. ▷ A tower crane operator who goes to work in the sky Mr. Lee Hoe-hyung goes to work every day on a 260m tower crane that is higher than the 63 Building (249m). It is extremely dangerous to see him climb up into the sky with his bare hands without any safety equipment. There, he works to move heavy objects up to 20 tons. It is not easy to drive in a cramped tower crane while constantly looking down at the ground. Furthermore, since it is a place directly affected by wind and fog, he has to be very careful to move heavy objects without accidents. Mr. Lee, who gains strength by looking at the family photo hanging next to the driver's seat every time, built the highest main tower in Korea without any accidents. With that pride, he has been guarding the sky for 20 years, and now he says that his workplace feels as comfortable as his home. ▷ An endless challenge to build the best bridge in Korea Incheon Bridge, a collection of Korean civil engineering technology. A new method was introduced for the section of the overpass connected to the land, where the deck (50m long, 1,350 tons in weight) is built on land and moved to the sea. Thanks to this, the construction of the deck, which usually takes a month, was reduced to just two days. Although it is on land, it is not as easy as offshore work. You have to sit and bend all day to build the steel frame and fight against the sweltering heat of the concrete. Once the deck is completed, it is transported to the sea using a 3,000-ton offshore crane. From there, it is transported to the construction site using an 80-meter-long transport cart, the first of its kind in Korea. Since this is a site where so many super-large pieces of equipment are being mobilized, you never know when an emergency might occur. The work continues in a state of extreme tension, where teamwork is the only thing that matters. <Incheon Bridge Construction Site> Part 2 ▷ The World’s Largest Collision Prevention Structure Construction Site The world’s largest dolphin-shaped collision prevention structure, which can withstand collisions with 100,000-ton ships, is being installed in the cable-stayed bridge section. This collision prevention structure is a super-large structure weighing 1,000 tons and 38 meters high. Moving this structure, which was manufactured on land, to the sea is also no easy task. Even though it is a distance that can be reached in 20 minutes by speedboat, it takes a whopping 2 hours because it is transported with the prevention structure suspended by a 3,000-ton offshore crane. In addition, there are many large ships passing through the transport route, so there is a risk of collision. The pouring work that is done after arriving at the site is also full of danger. It is extremely dangerous to move into the collision prevention structure using a lift temporarily suspended from the crane. The speed of cutting the welded part inside and fixing the collision prevention structure to the sea is incredible. If you are not careful with the tide, it can cause a major accident, so it is a work that requires extreme caution. ▷ Hidden heroes in the construction of Incheon Bridge The lake section being constructed using a different method than the cable-stayed bridge. This section is being constructed using a method of pushing the deck plate through a mobile formwork. On the day of the formwork pouring, about 100 workers start work at 5 a.m. Most of the work is done by hand, and since the pouring must be done all at once, the work is done without rest. They wrestle with concrete hoses weighing over 30kg, and the arduous work of removing concrete bubbles amidst ear-piercing roaring noises continues. At the same time, pouring work is also in progress under the deck. In a place where the space is narrow and the steel frames are entangled, it is difficult to even move, and we meet the hidden heroes of Incheon Bridge who are sweating profusely without even straightening their backs. ▷ Beyond the limit... People writing new history on the sea “I feel a sense of accomplishment because I think that our country’s technology is not lacking in the world.” “Next time, I will bring my son and daughter-in-law and brag that I did this.” “Isn’t Incheon Bridge the fifth largest bridge in the world? All of our country’s top construction companies are here, and I understand that the people working here are not qualified to work without being highly qualified.” In the middle of the vast ocean with strong winds, fog, and even the difference in tides... there, over a thousand offshore workers fight against all kinds of adverse conditions every day to build Korea’s best bridge. What on earth is the reason why these extreme fighters can win the fight against themselves? They all say that it is their pride in building the best bridge in Korea. ✔ Program name: Extreme Job - Incheon Bridge Construction Site Part 1-2 ✔ Broadcast date: 2008.06.11 #Extreme Job #Construction #Architecture #Industry #Science #Engineering #Construction method #Civil engineering #Technology #Bridge #Machine #Korea #korea #korean
