In this monthly update, Yael Potjer discusses his expectations for 2025 together with Frank Knopers of Geotrendlines. We discuss the existential crisis in Europe, geopolitical tensions, capital flight, bitcoin and the development of the gold price in 2025. Frank expects major challenges for Europe, including rising government debts and interest rates, increasing budget deficits (such as in France) and increasing political uncertainty. He also points to the energy crisis, which is causing more and more German companies to relocate their production. Is Germany still in time to change course? We also discuss the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria and their impact on the global economy. According to Frank, inflation is now structurally high, the result is a flight from currencies. He sees a trend in which people invest en masse in shares, gold, real estate and bitcoin due to the depreciation of the euro and the negative return on savings. According to Frank, we will see a government that takes more and more control over the lives of individual citizens, for example he sees more and more fiscal 'Berlin walls' emerging. Frank thinks that there is a greater chance that we in Europe will continue on the current dead-end road instead of truly reforming as described by the Austrian School and implemented by Javier Milei.
