📝Hiking date: 2023.12. 16 (Sat) ⏩Route: Jukryeong ~ 2nd Yeonhwabong ~ Yeonhwabong ~ 1st Yeonhwabong ~ Birobong ~ Eouigok Parking Lot 🕐Total 17km, 5 hours 10 minutes Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced 👍Recommended location: I almost died and came back to life. Be careful in this weather. 💕Feeling: This is the first time I've experienced such a strong wind in my life. I think Seoraksan might be the only mountain where the wind blows so consistently. Even though the azaleas were in full bloom, it was a hike where I couldn't see ahead because of the blizzard, and I barely made it back alive. I can never go to Gukmangbong on a day like this. 🎞Please watch in the highest resolution. At first, only the snow flowers are visible and Sanggodae is not visible, but soon Sanggodae will also come into view. This forest road is really beautiful, but the visibility is not very good because of the blizzard. You can see Sanggodae from the beginning, but the blizzard is no joke. After walking about 4km on the forest road, you will arrive at the 2nd Yeonhwabong, but you can't see anything. You go straight to the observatory, but there are no human footprints around. I'm starting to get scared. 🥶😭 🚩Yeonhwabong The forest road connects the 2nd Yeonhwabong to Yeonhwabong. There is an astronomical observatory right before Yeonhwabong, and you walk along the wonderful? road while getting hit by the blizzard. (You can't see anything because it's gomtang.) There is a rhododendron colony near Yeonhwabong, and all the rhododendrons are in bloom with Sanggodae flowers, so it's really pretty, but I think I'm going to die from the cold. I take a quick look around and then go straight to the 1st Yeonhwabong. 🚩1st Yeonhwabong After Yeonhwabong, you enter the forest road. Zzug~ You pass through the Sanggodae tunnel, and although it's a slightly less windy area, it's still covered in snow, so it's hard to walk. There is nothing to see except Sanggodae, and when you go near Yeonhwabong, the deck road starts, and it is a place with a very good view. However, today, there is nothing to see except Sanggodae. Sanggodae is the best on the nearby rock wall that you can see occasionally. I get my certification here and head to Birobong. 🚩 Birobong The wind is really crazy as I move from Yeonhwabong 1st to Cheondong Intersection. It blows almost as hard as it does near Birobong. It is starting to get scary. Some people are going down in the middle. I take a break at the observation post right below to calm my mind. I come out again and go up to Birobong, and the wind is really crazy. I think it is the first time I have experienced this kind of wind in my life. What's more, my face hurts as if it is going to tear because my eyes are also going down. My entire face looks bruised. At this time, everyone coming down is coming back down without being able to face me straight ahead. I barely make it to the top to get my certification, but the wind is so strong that I can't go forward. I barely get my certification with my face turned red and head towards Gungmangbong. 🚩Eoui-gok Intersection From Birobong to Eoui-gok Intersection, the wind seems to be stronger here. I just keep going forward and getting pushed back repeatedly. I barely made it through and hid behind the rocky area in the middle, but the wind here is so strong that it feels like it's going to blow away. I keep going forward and barely reach the intersection and head to today's goal, Gungmangbong. However, the path is completely gone, and when I try to open it, the snow is piled up to my knees, so I can't go. I give up after trying for a while. I just descend towards Eoui-gok. My GoPro camera is broken and turns off as soon as I turn it on. I have no choice but to take a video with my phone. After coming down a bit while being hit by a more severe cold wind, why is it so quiet... It couldn't be this warm even if the wind didn't blow. 🚩Descent Now I'm slowly and leisurely descending. The first thing I see is the beautiful pine forest... It looks so beautiful together with Sanggo-dae. After passing through the pine forest and coming down a bit, I reach the valley. The valley was turned into a waterfall due to the rain that fell during the week. The Sangodae and snow flowers combined to create another spectacular sight. After looking at the snow-covered valley waterfalls for a while and coming down, you will soon exit the Eoeuigok Trail, and if you go a few hundred meters more, you will reach the parking lot. 💕Review Last week, the weather forecast said that the whole country would be covered in snow flowers, so I decided to go to Sobaeksan, which I wanted to go to the most. I also wanted to go to Seoraksan, but it was too cold, so I gave up, but it was closed that day. So it seems that most people moved to Seonjaryeong. It was so warm during the week that I never expected it to suddenly get this cold in one day, but it really dropped below -10 degrees Celsius, and the unbelievable cold wind made my life-threatening hiking. I think if I had pushed myself to Gungmangbong, I would have had a big accident or not been able to return on time. It was the first time in my life that I had encountered such strong winds, and it was a day when I didn't want to go to Sobaeksan again. Fortunately, the course was shortened a lot, so I was able to come down quickly and have a delicious meal. It was a great day. And the valley waterfall, Sanggodae, and snow flowers created by the rain during the week were spectacular. I think I will be able to see Sanggodae under the blue sky the next day, but it is a pity. I think safe hiking is the top priority when hiking in winter. I think it is right to be especially careful on days like this.
