199th Anniversary of the Consolidation of Independence at Sea. Manzanillo, Colima. Saturday, November 23, 2024 President Claudia Sheinbaum. From Manzanillo, Colima, we celebrate Mexican Navy Day to commemorate the feat of Pedro Sáinz de Baranda, who, along with other heroes and heroines, achieved Mexico's independence at sea in 1825. By obtaining the surrender of the fortress of San Juan de Ulúa, the last stronghold of the Spanish crown, they make us proud; we are heirs to a history of independent life and great civilizations. Independence is defended in every action and in every decision of Mexicans. The Mexican Navy is a bastion of freedom, independence and protection of our ideals as a sovereign and just country; it is a symbol of our identity at sea. With loyalty, honesty, honor, bravery and patriotism, the Armed Forces protect us and put their knowledge, professionalism and creativity at the service of the country's development. The modernization of the port of Manzanillo, which begins today in the Cuyutlán lagoon, is something extraordinary that would not be possible without the Mexican Navy. The Armed Forces also support Mexicans in the construction of trains, roads and hospitals; the Mayan Train, the Interoceanic Train and the Wellbeing Centers. They also work in six ports, in addition to Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos, major objectives of Mexico's development. May the legacy of the Mexican Navy endure in each generation and remind us that we are an indomitable people who never give up, and who today look to the future with joy and hope.
