"Tabi no Yokaze" (Night Wind of Travel) Lyrics: Saijo Yaso / Music: Makime Sei Sung by: Kirishima Noboru, Matsubara Misao (Miss Columbia) A Japanese pop song released by Columbia Records on September 10, 1938 (Showa 13) as a coupling song with "Sad Lullaby". It was also the theme song for the Shochiku film "Aizen Katsura" and recorded astounding record sales of 1.2 million copies, which was a staggering amount at the time. Considering the number of players (called gramophones) available in Japan at the time, this would be equivalent to a mega-hit selling around 20 million copies today. From "Niki Kozo's Song Story" https://duarbo.air-nifty.com/songs/20... The movie Aizen Katsura itself became an explosive hit, and when sequels and a finale were made, a series of theme songs were released, including Aizen Nocturne, Asatsuki Yuzuki, Aizen Soushi, and Kouya no Yokaze, all of which became hits. In the movie, Matsubara Misao dubbed the scenes sung by Tanaka Kinuyo, but at the time dubbing techniques were not well known to the public, so many audience members mistakenly thought that Tanaka herself was singing. Aizen Katsura became so popular that a record of "Dorigos Serenade," which she sang in the movie, was released under Matsubara Misao's name, and she even appeared in a short film called Aizen Monogatari with Kirishima Noboru and Watanabe Ryo.
