The Canale delle Pale Rosse cuts entirely across the WSW face of Gran Zebrù along a very beautiful direct line, coming out on the final part of Suldengrat. Once quite popular (during the 'Great War' it was equipped with fixed ropes to facilitate the ascent of Italian soldiers to the summit), it is now a rarely travelled route. Moreover, the intense deglaciation phenomena that affected the Ortles group mean that the ascent of this channel is only in condition in the spring season. Route to be climbed with good snow conditions and cold weather as it is subject to rockfall.
