I suffered a lot with Leo. It was past his feeding time. He had to nurse because he was a newborn and needed to gain weight, but he wouldn't wake up. And I tried to wake him up, but nothing happened. Or, he would start nursing and then fall asleep. So, I had to learn some techniques to wake him up or keep him awake to nurse. I'm sharing with you the tricks I learned, and I'm giving tips that will definitely help mother and baby deal with sleepiness when breastfeeding. Watch! 00:00 - Opening 00:50 - Do you need to wake the baby up to nurse? 01:31 - Light tips 02:59 - Intense tips 1) Take a few deep breaths in and out. Sometimes, just the movement of your chest will get the baby to start sucking again. 2) Caress the baby's chin up to the neck with medium pressure. 3) Squeeze your breast a little as if you were going to remove the nipple from the baby's mouth. When you feel that it will come off your breast, start breastfeeding again. 4) Tickle the baby's feet and tummy, with the intention of waking him up. 5) Take off the baby's clothes and leave him wrapped in a blanket, covered enough so that he doesn't feel too cold. This helps to wake him up. But you don't need to leave him cold, it's just to wake him up. 6) Massage the baby's head in circular motions while breastfeeding. You can also use a damp cloth to wipe the baby's head to help him stay awake. 7) Let the baby take breaks while sucking. A breastfeeding baby effectively makes a movement that we call "suck - pause - swallow", because there is a small pause, of a few seconds, for the baby to swallow the milk that he sucked from the breast. Some babies swallow milk quickly, others take longer, but this short pause occurs and is essential for assessing whether the baby is breastfeeding properly. However, if this pause is too long (longer than 15 seconds), the baby may in fact be just “hanging on the breast” and not breastfeeding properly, but rather using it only to sleep. 8) Switch the side the baby is breastfeeding from during the feeding. As soon as the baby starts to lose interest in breastfeeding, switch the breast! Do this every 30 to 60 seconds. 9) Do the piggyback position. Place the baby on your lap with the legs close to your belly and the head on your knees. Gently support the baby by placing him or her in a sitting position (this is the “riding position”). Do this two or three times, alternating between switching sides to breastfeed. 10) Check to see if the baby has any other needs. Burp him or her and check to see if the diaper is dirty. Preferably use the sitting position on the mother's lap for the baby to burp. Check out the position in this video: • THE BEST POSITION FOR YOUR BABY TO BURP. Avoid using the position on your shoulder, as this position induces more sleep. 11) Change the diaper. 12) Stimulate the release of milk into the mouth. 13) Try the translactation technique. 14) IMPORTANT: If for some reason the baby is not sucking properly, the mother must continue to extract milk from the breast at least 5 times a day, to maintain adequate milk production, even if it is to donate or freeze. And remember that the more the mother extracts milk, the more milk she will produce. 15) Look for a lactation consultant. ???? Visit the MdM store on Amazon: www.amazon.com.br/macetesdemae ????
