On May 28, 2024, the 17th day of our trip, it happens. We had just unreefed that morning and were traveling at 6-8 knots with 18-20 knots of wind. The sun was shining, visibility was excellent, and we had carried out our regular checks from the helm and with the radar device. When suddenly MariaNoa stopped with a jerk. Just like that, in the middle of the Pacific, as if it had braked to a stop. ▬ keywords ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #mayday #securite #panpan #ilesmarquises #fenuaenata #FrenchPolynesia #frenchpolynesia #marquesas #longvoyage #galapagos #pacific #pacific #doldrums #CentralAmerica #CentralAmerica #barefootroute #Barfussroute #bluewater #blog #bluehorizon #boatlife #boat #boating #boatprofessionals #cruising #expedition #cruisingsailing #friends #luck #hurricane #huricane #hurricaneseason #hurricane #caribbean #catamaran #lavagabonde #lagoon40 #longvoyage #longvoyagesailing #marianoa #oceansailing #plan #planinternational #roundtheworld #travelblog #travel #sailing #sailing #sailinginsieme #ship #snorkeling #sailingadventure #sailboat #sailingboys #sailing #sailingacrosstheatlantic #sailingyacht #sailor #summer, #sunset #beach #svdelos #tobago #dream #travel #sailingaroundtheworld #ontheroad #vlog #vlogger #worldtrip #circumnavigation ▬ About this film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The wind continues to blow but MariaNoa stands still. We look around, disturbed. A raft with a green container is floating next to us. If we look longer, we think we see the beginning of a trawl net. In any case, this raft appears to be firmly anchored in the Pacific at a depth of 4,000 m. A rope is stretched in the water between the raft and MariaNoa, holding us tight. Because MariaNoa wants to move on, her sails are full of wind. The first step is therefore to take the pressure off the sails - pull in the sails. The self-tacking jib is quickly rolled up, but the mainsail? Normally you turn into the wind to take in the mainsail. No jump. We throw out the main halyard, which has been coming down on its own for some time, for whatever reason. I can pull in the 1st and 2nd reefing lines with the electric winch - that's not elegant. I climb up the mast and pull the rest of the sail down by hand. But even without a sail, a ship has a considerable surface area exposed to the wind and wants to move on. In order to cut the line to the raft, I first have to reach it. We reverse with the port engine and pull the line onto the cleat - I cut it with the angle grinder. The raft drives away - or rather MariaNoa. The pressure on our starboard rudder blade, around which the line had been wrapped, is finally gone. What damage might the rudder blade have sustained? The AIS buoy is still hanging on the other end, but it's obviously not working. Otherwise we would have seen it coming. I use a noose to pull the buoy onto the deck and cut through this end of the line as well. The buoy drifts away. Do you have any specific questions? We'll be happy to answer them at [email protected]. ▬ Via this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ We are Brigitta and Hannes. We are sailing around the world together. We bought a catamaran for this, and we set off on the barefoot route from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021. For many years, sailing around the world had been my (Hannes') big dream, which I wanted to realize when I reached retirement age due to my job. But sometimes life turns out differently than you plan. In spring 2020, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Suddenly my life accelerated considerably, I sold my house, got rid of the household goods and started buying mountains of ship equipment. "Cast off!" was planned for the beginning of March 2021 - and that's how it happened, despite Corona. Brigitta was of course completely surprised at first, although a circumnavigation of the world fit much better into her professional life as an early retiree than into mine. In the last 6 months, however, she has made amazing progress and is looking forward to our big adventure just like me. Plan International is an international children's aid organization. On our trip we don't just want to chill in dream bays, but also visit Plan program countries and document the work there.
