The first place of pilgrimage in Brittany, the sanctuary of Sainte-Anne d'Auray is the most important in France after Lourdes and Lisieux. The Basilica dedicated to Sainte Anne is the heart of the sanctuary. It replaced, at the end of the 19th century, in 1872, the first chapel built by Yvon Nicolazic, a chapel that had become too small to accommodate the crowds of pilgrims. It is built in the very field of Bocenno where the primitive statue of Sainte Anne by Nicolazic was found. In neo-Gothic style combining the grace of the Renaissance, it houses the tombs of Yvon Nicolazic (1591-1645), the man who saw Sainte Anne and Pierre de Keriolet, the penitent (1602-1660).
