How good or bad is it to go on an unplanned long trip with an electric car? This is the third time we've put electric cars and the infrastructure to the test with a bunch of modern electric cars on the same day. Which car meets the challenge best? Or will it be the human factor – or perhaps the apps – that decide? Since development is fast, we have increased the number of miles from 75 to 100 - although there are few of us who often drive that far in one and the same day, you should of course be able to do it without worry. On the starting line are the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with really fast charging, the new Nissan Ariya with a large battery, the energy-efficient Tesla Model Y with a fantastic charging network and the coupé sibling of Sweden's best-selling electric car in 2022: the Volkswagen ID.5. All large and nice family cars at reasonable electric car prices. The route is Solna–Gothenburg round trip, but the return trip must go via Örebro to make it more challenging. But the real test is that none of the drivers get to plan their route in advance and none get to use sensible electric car navigation apps like A Better Routeplanner or Chargefinder. We let the car's infotainment system and navigation manage the planning and charging station finding – something that turns out to be so difficult for many of them. Join the long journey to see what it's like to drive an electric car for real - beyond the simplistic host of advertising.
