In this episode of PODSIN - Psychology Dialogues with Society, we talk to Sidarta Ribeiro, neuroscientist, biologist, professor, founder of the Brain Institute at the Federal University of Rio do Norte, and researcher at Fiocruz. The conversation was recorded in June 2023 and was available in audio on PodSin's Spotify; now, we have also put the full interview on the YouTube channel. Sidarta is the author of several books, including The Oracle of the Night - the History and Science of the Dream and Manifest Dream, both published by Cia das Letras. In this conversation, he talks about how capitalism produces mental illness, the paradox of humanity never having had so many resources and at the same time being so close to extinction, and his apocalyptic optimism. For him, we must rethink the forms of accumulation and distribution and adopt a universal basic income to guarantee survival with dignity. Sidarta also addresses the use of psychedelics in medicine, dreams, and how we can become a more fulfilled society and individuals through paradigm shifts. PodSin, Dialogues between Psychology and Society is a project by the Union of Psychologists of São Paulo, which seeks to reflect on contemporary issues directly or indirectly linked to Psychology and transformative processes.
