CONSTRUCTION MISTAKES or DECORATION MISTAKES are very bad because they cause waste, losses and botches in the work. If it is in the finishing phase, it is even worse, because it is one of the most expensive phases of the work. They can be errors in kitchen countertops, bathroom sinks, coverings, PORCELAIN FLOORING, PLASTER LINING, DOORS, FAUCETS, TOILETS and much more. Today I will list 10 FINISHING MISTAKES THAT CAN DEVALUE YOUR HOME. ITEM 1 – GROUT – Whether it is acrylic grout, epoxy grout, bathroom or kitchen grout, the truth is that this is an item that is difficult to keep clean and if we choose the wrong type it becomes even more difficult to maintain. Excess grout in the corners of the floors, grout that stains floors, these are some of the problems we can have. Use grout remover if necessary or a grout scraper to apply new grout if necessary; ITEM 2 – DOOR TRIM – Also known as door trim, it is usually 5cm wide and we generally use a small masonry called a “doll” measuring 10cm to install this trim. However, in very small bathrooms we often need to make this doll only 5cm wide, leaving the trim at the limit of the measurement. However, there are times when the trim is cut either at the doll or at the countertop. A good solution is to use a semi-inset sink or a carved sink to have a narrower countertop; ITEM 3 – JOINTS – Whether in custom furniture, mirrors or on stone countertops. In furniture, panels and mimetic doors, we have the limits of the MDF boards, which is why it is common to see joints in panels, shelves, living room racks, etc. If the joints are well positioned, they are very discreet. In a SLATTED PANEL, we do not have this problem because the slats hide it. We must be careful with joints in mirrored doors and in stone or porcelain countertops. We generally use joints between the dry and wet areas of the countertop; ITEM 4 – FAUCET – Leave less than 10 cm between the sink and the wall behind a tabletop faucet or countertop faucet. A measurement of less than 10 cm can crack the stone or even accumulate a lot of dirt around the faucet or mixer; ITEM 5 – FRAMES – Misaligned doors and windows with gaps that are out of plumb or square. This can impair the functioning of the frame, causing noise and difficulty in closing and opening. Often, adjustment alone does not solve the problem, and using sealants and silicone alone does not last very long. ITEM 6 – MISALIGNED BEAMS – This is a problem when the beam is tilted and we are unable to properly install a glass balcony or roller blind without leaving gaps that could allow water to enter. The same applies to an out-of-plumb wall and we want to install a glass shower enclosure. Without sealing, this could ruin other finishes; ITEM 7 – OUTLETS – Position outlets in the right places, taking into account certain equipment such as a dishwasher, hot tower, induction cooktop, hood, oven, etc. Be careful that these outlets are not lost or cut off by a piece of furniture or shelf; ITEM 8 – UNEVEN FLOOR AND CEILING – Making custom furniture, a custom kitchen, a wardrobe or anything that goes from the floor to the ceiling can be complex when we have an uneven ceiling or floor, as there will be gaps. On the ceiling, it is easy to hide with a finish, but on the floor, it is more obvious; ITEM 9 – PAGINATION OF FLOORS AND COVERINGS – We must make a good pagination to avoid cuts and waste, whether by changing the size of the floor or starting the pagination from another wall. In the baseboard we can adjust the height of the pediment or the overhead cabinet to have a pagination without cuts; ITEM 10 – BATHROOM COVERINGS – Avoid covering the last row of coverings, first do the walls without this last row, then do the plaster ceiling, then the floor and finally this last row following the finished slope of the floor up to the drain; Here are the videos mentioned: GROUT: • GROUT - TYPES OF GROUT AND HOW TO USE...
