My children slept wonderfully well until 15 days of age, after that, Leo started to have a lot of colic and gas and then, his sleep became very impaired, with him staying awake a lot even at 1 or 2 months. Caê, on the other hand, was a sleepier baby. He slept a lot, really well, until two months and, of course, after that, it wasn't all that dreamy anymore. We can always try some techniques and strategies and see if we can improve the newborn's sleep. And here, I'm going to share some tips and techniques with you: • Nest technique: make a "nest" in the crib and place the baby inside. You make this "nest" using two rolled-up bath towels, positioned in a half "C" shape, one facing the other, and then covering it with a blanket or light blanket. Once done, just place the baby inside at bedtime. He will feel protected and will relax and sleep more easily. • Cigar technique: wrap the baby up to make him sleep and, when he falls asleep, place him in the crib, leave him curled up until he falls asleep and, then, release his arms to ensure the baby's safety. I also explain this technique in detail in a video here on the channel. • Shhhh technique: something very, very simple, and it works really well! It consists of making the baby sleep by making a shhhhh noise in his ear and then, if he wakes up after being placed in the crib, make the shhhhh sound again in his ear. • Wait a little before placing the baby in the crib: do not place the baby in the crib immediately after falling asleep, but wait 5 to 10 minutes. During this time, the baby will fall into a deeper sleep and will not wake up as easily. • When placing the baby in the crib, stay there for a while: position the baby lying down and do not “let go” of him/her right away. Stay with your chest on his/her body for a while and then gradually remove your arms from under the baby. As soon as you remove the arms, place your hands on the arms and legs “lightly”, without pressing, just so the baby can continue to feel the touch and also, if he/she makes any involuntary movement with these limbs, he/she will not wake up because of it. This only needs to last a few seconds and helps a lot. • White noises: play the sound of a hair dryer, a running tap or even a washing machine in the background. There are several apps that simulate these sounds and are a “helping hand”, or accessories that have lights and sounds that also help a lot. • Putting your baby to sleep in the stroller: if, during daytime naps, you put your baby to sleep on your lap and, as soon as you put him/her in the crib or stroller, he/she wakes up, how about putting your baby to sleep straight in the stroller? I used this technique with Leo and it helped a lot. • Putting your baby to sleep in a bouncer: this can be an alternative to the practice of holding your baby + crib, if that doesn't work. • Rocking your baby in your lap and putting him/her to sleep in the crib: my suggestion is to rock your baby in your lap, let the baby relax and then put him/her, still awake, in the crib. Many babies enjoy this option and adapt very well to it. • Observe the child's well-being: Another tip is to observe the child's well-being and comfort. What do I mean by this? Check if the child is not gassy, should not have burped, is not hungry, is not too cold or too hot, is not wearing uncomfortable clothes.
