When you think of a laundry room or utility room, the first thing that comes to mind is that it's used exclusively for washing clothes and cleaning shoes. But that's not necessarily the case. So, the first thing to think about is what the FUNCTION OF THE LAUNDRY ROOM IS. Will it only be used for washing clothes? Will you use the space to hang clothes? Do you also need to install a gas heater? Do you want to store your pet's things or perhaps some sports equipment? Will it be integrated into another room, such as a kitchen or gourmet area? In my case, in addition to clothes and cleaning products, brooms, squeegees, etc., I also store cycling equipment and helmets. And our heater is also here. So the use of the laundry room is very specific! After you define its functionality, now you need to know the dimensions of your laundry room or utility room, so you can know if it will fit the equipment you want. Typically, a laundry room has a washing machine and a sink, but it can have more equipment. And now I'm going to talk about the most important piece of equipment in a laundry room: the washing machine. It can be a washer only, or a washer and dryer, with a top opening (which is the most common model) or a front opening. If you choose the top opening model, keep in mind that you will lose space for a larger countertop that goes over the washing machine. If your laundry room or service area has limited space, it's best to choose a front opening model, like the one I showed in the video. Note that you need to leave a space of at least 5 cm between the sides and the back wall to position the washing machine, which will be further forward from the countertop. Your laundry room countertop can be made of other materials, such as porcelain tiles. A tip for those who are going to use porcelain tiles is to use the seams in the cutouts of the porcelain tiles, as is the case with mine. In my laundry room that I show in the video, I used the same porcelain tile on the floor, side walls and countertop, because I wanted a cleaner look with a single color, and it was more economical to use porcelain than an artificial stone. One way to organize your laundry room is to invest in custom furniture. I always choose to use drawers instead of cabinets with doors because it is easier to reach products or whatever you need to get from the back by just opening the drawer rather than having to bend down to reach the back of the cabinet. Custom cabinets are an excellent alternative for you to optimize space if your laundry room or service area is small. One solution that I really like is the vertical cabinet that I use to store brooms, mops, ironing board, bucket and can even store a vacuum cleaner depending on the size. If you want to save money, you can choose to alternate cabinets with shelves or use only shelves to reduce the cost of carpentry. But be careful not to use too many shelves, because in the laundry room we store cleaning products and they are not very attractive to be on display and it can seem disorganized to leave all of this visible. So, my first suggestion is to use a cabinet with doors. Now, if you really need to save money, the shelf will make everything more affordable. One solution is to put your everyday products (softener, bleach, washing powder) in containers, such as juice dispensers. Let's talk about ORGANIZATION: It is a good idea to have laundry baskets to separate dirty clothes into colored, white and delicate items, which makes washing easier. In addition to laundry baskets, another alternative is to use organizing boxes for cleaning products, cleaning cloths, clothes pegs, etc. If you want to make your laundry room more beautiful, my suggestion is to choose a prominent point, such as a wall, or a colorful piece of furniture like mine. We often think of just putting white covering on the walls and floor, but we think differently and put a covering with more personality above the sink or different lighting with an LED strip.
