When it comes to Yoruk culture, the first thing that comes to mind is the nomadic lifestyle. However, Yoruks have also adopted a settled life over the years and have carried the traditions and customs they have maintained for centuries to the places they migrated to. Yoruk traditions and culture are kept alive in the Urla district of Izmir. Izmir University of Economics has started a study to transfer the forgotten Yoruk dishes to the next generations. Academics and students are going from village to village in Urla and collecting recipes from the elderly. When the study is completed, a book will be published.
